I'm not so sure.
Photoscan may prefer dealing with 5 images of 10 Mpix each acquired from 5 different view points than just one 50Mpix image.
I think the main advantage will be for applications working image per image (for instance traditional photogrammetry working on stereo pairs).

But of course replacing 10Mpix images by 50Mpix using the same camera positions will give more details, and hence a better model quality.

Comparing the same project acquired with different camera definitions will be very interesting !

nobody said to replace 5 x 10mpx images for one bigger one..( I don't even understand why one would do that.). .. but simply said, for the same number of images and identical framing, the more pixels the better..  8)

If you take 20 shots from a chair with a 10mpx cam, and the same 20 shots with a 50mpx cam... then you will ended up with the same chair, except much more detailed with the 50mpx images..  :P

Replacing multiple shots from a single location with one image using a wider fov is, however, potentially useful.  Just finished a shoot with 200 camera stations with 4 x 20mp full frame fisheye images each (5 in some cases if I needed to get the zenith). 50mp circular fisheye would be close to the quality with half the number of images to shoot (and more foreground)... Now if I could just convince the boss to get a fisheye for our H5D 60 ;)

Of course... and using an UltraCam camera will even be better....
I just have the impression that having more images acquired from different places will have more impact on model quality than just increasing the camera definition.
But it's just a feeling, to be confirmed by some objective testing.
BTW, I' also very interested by this new 5D !

teh new 5DS need a new lenses, without proper lenses you get not over say 30 Mpix of real resolution..... even the Nikon D800E have problem to get full 36Mpix resolution, you need a 3.000-5.000 EUR lens to get real 35-36 Mpix res...

Wishgranter hits the nail on the head. 50MP is great, but not many lenses will be able to resolve that amount of detail.

And unless you are planning to  process  your Dense Cloud at 'Ultra' then it doesn't make sense to invest in a 50MP camera anyway. For most users it will be better to invest in a good lens and do everything to improve the image quality.
