Hey guys,

This is my first post here. I'm working on R3DS::WrapX - a topology transfer tool. Let me share with you some of our latest results of 3D-scan processing for cloth simulation.

We were thinking of idea of creating and simulating cloth on real person using 3D-scanning data. We chose Marvelous Designer as cloth simulation software.

Simulating cloth on a rough 3D-scan turns out to be impossible due to noise, holes, artifacts and huge number of polygons. Automatic decimation or remeshing does not give a good result as all the artifacts and holes are left in place.

After small research together with 3D-Humanity we have found an interesting solution and implemented a couple of tools for WrapX,  that we would like to share with you. The solution is based on the idea of transferring a topology of standard Marvelous Designer avatar onto a 3D-scan. As a result you will have an avatar representing a real person and preserving all the standard avatar's features like cloth arrangement, pose changing and animation.

We have prepared a small tutorial describing the entire process. I hope you'll find it usefull. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated!

That is really cool!  Thanks for the tip and great tutorial.  Think i must buy marvelous designer!  Have herd of it but only thought it did cloth simualtion.
Have been using Zbush for retopology and mesh clean up but this seems better in at least some cases and you get a pre rigged character to.
Could you post some images of the scanned character before and after re topology side by side please?  Would be interesting to see how much of the original features you lose.
How do you make normal maps when you only have a low res model?  Any way to make a normal map preserving the details of the scan using this workflow?

Could you load the marvelous designer avatar in to Zbrush, subdivide it and re project the details and then make the normal map?  That should work right?  Or is there a better workflow?
