Thermal mapping - data format
« on: March 08, 2015, 11:20:20 PM »
Hello!

I am building a system for aerial thermal mapping. I have an experience with line scanner thermal data processing but not frame data.
What format data is used? Is 8bit BMP file the right way? Or is it possible to use 14(16)bit values?

TIFF would be the best bet I think.

But is it enough with 8bits=256 values?

I'm guessing 8bit would be enough, it partly depends on what fidelity of measurement you might want to make afterwards. It would mainly depend on the amount of detail in the images. Do most of the images typically contain a good density range?

It usually does not have >10 degrees difference which is enough for 256 values to show. But it's possible.
