High resolution snapshots
« on: March 16, 2015, 05:56:59 PM »
Hello,

is it possible to get High Resolution Screenshots from the 3D models of Photoscan?

At the moment, I am doing this with manual screenshots, but this results in 1920x1080 pixel images, and I need higher resolution. How can I do this?

(I have tried meshlab, but the rendering is very poor)

here are some suggestions i made a while back for doing this in meshlab:

I think the easiest way may be using MeshLab:

  • Export the model from photoscan, with texture - OBJ format works well
  • Use File -> Import Mesh... in MeshLab to open your model
  • Orient the model in MeshLab to get the view you want
  • Use File -> Save Snapshot to export the view as a PNG (which you can then convert to another format)
  • In the save snapshot dialog, bump up the Screen Multiplier value to get the desired resolution

one difference between photoscan and meshlab is that by default meshlab displays the model with artificial light shading, which will highlight any unsmoothness of your mesh, whereas photoscan does not do that, so you only ever see the colours as they are in the texture.

You can toggle this in meshlab by clicking the little yellow lightbulb in the middle of the toolbar at the top.

Marmoset Toolbag has a full 30 day license, and you can take whatever resolution pictures of your models (and video turnarounds) you'd like.
