USB accelerators?
« on: March 24, 2015, 05:34:50 PM »
Hello

are there any USB accelerators usable with PhotoScan? I can imagine USB PCI raiser card and a video card in it, with USB 3.0 there can be some speedup, but maybe I can find something more specific?

Maybe some USB bitcoin miners can work with photos?

ASIC chips are designed for one task and thats it. There is no way to re-purpose them at all, and thats why you will start to see so many cheap ASIC bitcoin miners starting to flood eBay.

There are USB to PCI-e adapters out there, but you will also need a PSU to power the card, so its not that portable. Also last I checked the price on a complete external GPU setup would be about the same price as building an entire budget desktop build

To make any meaningful working, I do need external 220V power supply. Nothing serious can be done running on battery.

Okay, that's what I've expected. I thought I could missing something. Should I get a descent videocard, I'll try to find an USB PCI raiser and check productivity, just to know it for future and share with people here.

Using a PCI-e USB riser will not work as It was not designed to be used like that. The site below might help though:
