Scanning on a turntable
« on: March 30, 2015, 11:57:59 PM »
I just bought a Canon EOS 500D and a 50mm f1.8 objective from Canon at advice from some friendly Agisoft forum members.
For my first scan with the new camera i selected a rather difficult object to scan. Shark jawbones.
I cranked up DOF, set ISO to 100 and shutter speed to 15s.
I was only doing 30 pictures from one height level because i still dont have a tripod. But i thought Agisoft would
reconstruct anyways this level of perspective.
It is really strange, but somehow i do sth very wrong when doing turntable scans. Agisoft spit out an empty 3d shadow of the jaw. The flat back of the chair was scanned in, but no shark.
Afterwards i decided to do some really bad lit images from more perspectives in hand without turntable.
I took 20 photos, very dark images, but anyways Agisoft reconstructed a pretty good 3d model of the jaw. Not much geometric detail(notooth), but the outer form was pretty well reconstructed for the circumstances.
It is really strange, the first very good batch of pictures i took on the turntable gave me almost nothing as 3d data.
Anything i have missed in the settings when taking pictures on a turntable?
I use right now only the demo version.

Why do i always figure things out after i pose questions in a forum?
Yes i see , i need to mask the object of interest.
