Inverted Point Cloud
« on: April 16, 2015, 12:05:04 AM »
I'm using three images to make a point cloud, which are not orthorectified. When I create a point cloud, all of the buildings are inverted into the model (they become depressions into the ground). I plan on tying geocoordinates to the model after creation but this does not correct for the buildings not being above ground. Any suggestions?

hey
have you checked the rest of the model maybe its not the buildings but the whole model which is just upside down
try swich on the cameras are they above or below ground.
it seems by default if you crate a model the UP is with the cameras on the other side of the model never understood this behaviour but make shure its not the whole model which is just turned

Frank-
Actually yes, you're right the cameras are on the bottom of the model. Any way to switch them/the model around??

yep you schould be able to rotate the model with one of the buttons on the main screen
press 7 on numpad first to make sure you are in the top view

Right, but will just rotating the view change the actual camera positions so when I create the point cloud it is right side up? I didn't think so.

Hello ksg2511,

If there are no reference points like camera center positions or GCPs, PhotoScan cannot understand anyhow where "UP" is supposed to be.

But you can use Rotate Object tool for manual adjustment.

I'm still doing something wrong. So I import 3 photos, align photos, and then have tried manually rotating the image in the viewing window and I've also tried View-Predefined Views-Rotate Up and then I make the point cloud and buildings are still inverted. Am I missing a step?

Thanks I got the rotating down, but should the steps be: import photos, align, rotate, create cloud? Since that's not working. Should it include another step?

Thanks so much for all the help with this!!!

Hello ksg2511,

You can rotate at any time after the Align Photos stage is finished.

But what is not working?

So I align the model, then rotate it so the cameras are above the model and not below, and then I 'build dense cloud' but when I open up the point cloud in another 3D environment the buildings are inverted below ground, not above ground.

Hello ksg2511,

Maybe you can post a screenshot of the Model view?

So I included pics of the results and some of my steps. I hope the pictures come in okay since I had to reduce the size significantly due the attachment requirements. I can post them individually if that's better.
Picture 1 is an overhead look of a few buildings after the cloud is created,
Picture 2 is showing how the buildings are underground
Picture 3 is when I turn my model upside down and show what the buildings are supposed to look like
Picture 4 is how I rotate the images after aligning so the cameras are up

Hello ksg2511,

I can't see the coordinate system axis indication on any of the images provided. It is usually located in the bottom right corner of the model view.

Also it seems that there are some visualization issus on the last screenshot.

Hmm as Alexey say some visualization problems.

Try update GPU drivers, what config you have ?
Windows version, RAM, CPU, GPU+drivers version   ??
