Purple tint to vertex color in fbx files from Photoscan
« on: June 15, 2015, 05:12:40 PM »
If I take a model exported with vertex color from Photoscan to a fbx-file, and use that as a high poly to bake down to a color map in xNormal, all the colors have a purple tint to it. If Import the same mesh in Maya first, then export to fbx again, the colors are baked correctly in xNormal.

In general, my meshes are too big to open in maya and re-export to fbx so I can't use that as a solution. Anyone else experience this?

We are using version 1.1.3 build 2018

Hello sc,

Could you please post some screen fragments demonstrating the problem?

Also please specify what input image format you are using?

And additionally I can suggest to update to the version 1.1.6 to avoid possible problems of the older release.

Left part is exported from Photoscan, imported into maya and exported to fbx again.  The colors look correct in Maya.

Right part is the same model exported from Photoscan.

then they are loaded in xNormal and used to bake the vertex colors down to a low-poly mesh

I updated to the newest version and get the same results, I've tried baking down to .tga and .tiff formats

Hello!
have this been resolved in the 1.2.0 pre-release version?

Hello sc,

Could you please provide any sample FBX files related to the same project, one exported from PhotoScan and another - re-saved by Maya? So we can compare them and see the difference. If possible using ASCII representation of FBX would be preferred.

Unfortunately, we were not able to reproduce this behavior on our side with other 3D model viewers, however, according to the screenshot provided green and blue channels are mixed.

I will email you an example. Switching the green and blue channel manually gives a more similar result, but there is still a significant difference.

Hello sc,

Thank you for the data. We'll check if there's anything wrong on our side.

Happened to me as well. Exported the model as a Stanford PLY (*.ply) instead of using fbx. That did the trick.
