River not showing up / showing very inaccurately
« on: August 04, 2015, 05:11:10 PM »
I've recently been flying over rural areas in Canada with the purpose of collecting an accurate terrain model in relation to nearby bodies of water and rivers.

I've attached a couple of pictures that show the problem I'm having.

There are almost no tie points on the river. I assume it's because the shading of the color is slightly different between each picture, or there is water reflection? Is there anything I can do about this?

From experience I can tell you that the only thing you can do is fly at a higher atltitude to have the entire width of the river in one image. This should allow it to be aligned.

As for creating reliable height data on water, forget it, not gonna happen.

Thanks for the reply.

In order for the data to be useful at this point, what are my options?  Do I need to manually delete all of the river tie points on the body of water, leaving the edges?

I need to use this data to create digital elevation models for flood simulations. Do you have any suggestions on how to use the data I have?

Thanks.

I can see this will take a very long time to classify all of the points.
