Texture black area
« on: August 19, 2015, 01:02:20 PM »
So I'm getting this cross-looking texture when generating it from my photos.

Anybody recognizes this problem?

Everything else went smooth, aligning cameras, dense pointcloud etc..,

fiddling around with the generate texture properties doesn't change this much.., it's almost like it crops away alot of information from the cameras except from a small part in the middle.

Just a heads up.., My cameras are aligned in two circular bands around the stone.., so the cross looking thing is perfectly aligned with the photos. Why it doesn't take all the information in the photo.., I don't know :(

Hello Emil,

It seems that the problem is related to the incorrect estimation of the distortion coefficients. Since the object occupies only the small central part of the image space the coefficients of radial distortion K2 and K3 couldn't be estimated accurately, due to their dependence on the distance from the principle point.

So actually I can suggest to use the image space more effectively, or calibrate the camera beforehand (or just input zeros to the Adjusted tab of camera calibration window for K2 and K3 prior to texturing).

Ccouldn't have guessed that. It sure epxlains why only my "small" objects got the funky textures..,

Tuning the radial distortion coefficients (k2 k3) to 0 worked like a charm, thanks! :)
