Yeh, I do that too.  Here's a youtube video of my VR app where I use a scan of a catwalk model https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0H-AXF0vMfc

That's for the Oculus Rift, but I can also build VR apps with barrel distortion for mobile, for people that use Google Cardboard or Durovis Dive.
