Opto-couplers vs. diodes for triggering multi-cams
« on: August 16, 2015, 12:38:08 PM »
I'm currently using diodes for the circuitry that triggers all the cameras.  This  is so the flow of electricity goes from trigger down to cameras in that direction only.  Opto-couplers also do the same thing but they are more expensive components and require power 'cos they are ICs so I'm wondering why people are using them instead of diodes?  I notice Lee Perry Smith from Infinite Realities is using them.  Are they faster than diodes?

Optocouplers allow you to isolate and protect elements of a circuit. It is always good practice to protect expensive equipment like cameras from possible issues with your triggering system.
