Orientation issues
« on: October 16, 2015, 06:20:50 PM »
Hi I'm a new user of Photoscan. I'm using photo data from a drone, but find that the software always aligns the photos in an orientation which doesn't align with the ground. Can anyone shed some light on how to get Photoscan to align photos in the correct spatial orientation please? Thanks in advance.

Hello timhemingway,

Are you using any reference information like coordinates of camera positions or ground control points?

No I'm not except for the EXIF data in the photos themselves. Are there capabilities in the standard software for additional data input?

Hello timhemingway,

PhotoScan Standard doesn't have any referencing instruments. So the produced model will be unscaled and arbitrary oriented. However, you can use Rotate Object tool to bring it in accordance with the coordinate system axis.

Hi Alexey,
Thanks for the help. The method you suggest, will this only be approximate? Is there an accurate way of doing it?

Hello timhemingway,

Unfortunately, there's no other accurate method in PhotoScan Standard, as there's no data to be used for georeferencing.

Hello,

I am having orientation problems to export the DEM and orthophoto from a model. Seems like my model is upside down... some features are facing to the east when it actually has to face to the west... Can anyone help me please to solve this problem??

Thanks in advance,
Napoleon

Hello Alexey,

I have the same issue as timhemingway, and I am using photoscan pro 1.2.0.
The blue squares and black lines are not aligned with the surface, they are off-set...
This issue happen always when I shoot low orthos for higher final resolution ortho. It doesn't happen when I take high photos.
Overlap is 85% front, and 70% side.
How can it be fixed?

Thanks so much Alexey,

I am processing now, but the sparse point cloud looks way better oriented! My fault, sorry I am a beginner, this forum is awesome. ;)

thanks again!

Hello Fkybarless,

Looks like principle point is not estimated correctly? Can you post also a screenshot of the Initial and Adjusted tabs of the Camera Calibration window? Are you using default values or any pre-calibration values?
