PhotoScan Pro: need special setting on Linux? Using amazon ec2
« on: October 23, 2015, 12:14:05 PM »
Hi,
Does anyone know the solution of below issue?

System : Ubuntu 14.04 on Amazon EC2. / Intel Xeon E5-2670 (Sandy Bridge)
PhotoScan recognizes 32 cores,
Targets, thousand images of 648 x 483 size photos.

Issue:
At the steps of Alignment, the process before "Estimating Camera Location" finishes within 5 minutes, but it shows about 12 hours to be done for "Estimating Camera Location" itself.
*On the console pane, I don't see error on it. just showing in progress...
*However, when the system is windows, it finishes less than 15 minutes on the same Amazon EC2.

I believe the difference is only operating system, however I don't understand why Amazon EC2 with linux is so slow.
By the way, when I tested on my local machine with ubuntu 14.04,  it doesn't take that much.

Thank you
Toshi

Hi,

Did you actually let it run for the estimating camera location or did you cancel it when you saw it had to run for 12 more hours? Because as far as I know that step isn't liniair and thus the ETA needed isn't liniair either.
For instance a large project I did recently of 6500 50mpx images said it needed 166 hours for the estimating camera locations (windows pc) however it was done in a single night.

Hi,

I actually cancelled the process after  20min passed. At Windows, it finished the process within 15min, so I felt something wrong, that is why...

Ok, anyway, I will let it go on for the process and check how it works.
Thank you.

Hello Toshi,

Are you sure about the processing settings used, were they identical in both tests? Maybe you have also processing logs related to each operation?

Hello Alexey,

Thanks for your suggestion. I believe it is identical, but not sure.
Because Amazon EC2 environment is not in here, so once when I get the log,  I will post it.

Thank you for your kind notice.
