cannot export orthomosaic
« on: December 28, 2015, 03:33:01 PM »
Hi All,

I am trying to export my orthomosaic. I have done the alignment, build dense point cloud, build mesh, build texture, and previously this was no problem to then export as orthomosaic. For some reason I cannot get it to work now. The mosaic looks good in the interface itself, the options to export as any datatype just remain gray and when i do batch process export it just says failed.

Hello ferdywallinx,

Are you sure that you have generated orthomosaic using Build Orthomosaic option in the Workflow menu? It's a part of new functionality of the version 1.2.

Generated orthomosaic as well as DEM will have their individual line in the chunk contents (in the Workspace pane) and double-clicking on the corresponding label will open orthomosaic or DEM in the 2D view (Ortho view mode).

Hi Alexey,

I think that we had this problem then since we worked with previous versions before. Do I need to run all the other processes still then? (point cloud, mesh, texture)

If the export ortho is grayed out in version 1.2+ (beta too) it means you need to run the Build Orthomosaic step.

This step can be run after either a mesh or a DEM is created. I've found that an Orthomosaic  based on the mesh as a surface in the form of a DTM yields the best result.

You still need to create a dense cloud. Texture is and was never needed to create an Orthomosaic.

Hello ferdywallinx,

If you've got a project file with already processed data, you do not need to recalculate everything, but only missing elements.
So if you have older project from the version 1.1, then re-save it in the version 1.2 to PSX format, then either build DEM (based on dense cloud or mesh), or generate orthomosaic based on mesh directly (though I'd rather recommend to use DEM as source).

Then export options for DEM and orthomosaic will be available.

Hi Alexey,

that would work. And what about new projects? What would be the minimum required steps to go from photos to orthomosaic?

Hello ferdywallinx,

Align Photos,
Georeference (with markers or cameras),
Optimize (optional, although recommended),
Build Dense Cloud,
Build DEM (from dense cloud),
Build Orthomosaic (based on DEM).

But as you see, depending on the task there could be different approach:
Align Photos,
Georeference (with markers or cameras),
Optimize (optional, although recommended),
Build Dense Cloud,
Build Mesh (based on dense cloud)
Build DEM (from mesh),
Build Orthomosaic (based on DEM/mesh).
