Sparse cloud holes problem
« on: January 02, 2016, 01:52:10 AM »
Hi all !

I have a little issue when aligning photos for sparse cloud.

I was wondering if anybody have a solution to this ? Or can tell me why holes appears... The overall model is fine, it only doesn't calculate vertical parts.

This happend on every flat scans of pavements I did. Am i doing something wrong when taking photos ?

Hello cepeka,

The holes on the first screenshot are related to the lack of the overlap along the longest model dimension between the images.

And the vertical parts, if the second screenshot is demonstrating that problem, seem to be not seen from at least two photos in the second case.

Hello, thanks for the advices.
The thing is, there is overlaping, but maybe not enough for Photoscan to understand the scan.

For another scan which is a complete dome of a doorstep (a single and simple concrete cube) and the soft doesn't recognise the two sides of it. Only top and face are rendering.

But I'm pretty sure a larger number of photos will do the trick.  ::)

Anyway thanks for the response.

Hello cepeka,

On these three photos the side surfaces are present only on two photos and on one of them (#8697) the view on the sirface is very oblique. So it might be looking very different when the images are being matched. You can switch to the points view mode in the Photo view or open View Matches dialog to see if there are any matching points (even invalid) that are related to the missing area on the reconstruction.

Indeed, try to get each surface under and angle of around 35 degree's for a real good scan....to oublique scans lead to holes in the mesh....
