What can be the solution when a no memory message appears during texture mapping of a room?

How to decide which options to put General, Mosaics or Average?

What exactly is the purpose of the Texture size/count? How to judje which number to put in my case?

Texture mapping problems...No memory message
« on: January 07, 2016, 01:04:08 PM »
Hi everyone,

I am having  problem, when trying to do the texture of a chunk with 60 cameras (a room). I put first  Generic, Mosaics, 4096x1 and also tried with Generic, Average 4096x1, but a Not enough memory message appears. I assume it is from the RAM, but do you have any suggestions how i can do the texture? The RAM of the PC i use is 16 GB. The thing is that I need to do the texture also on a chunk with 200 and 400 pics...
My photos are very high resolution (probably this is problematic) 5760x3840 pixels and i am not sure what parameters to put in the Texture size/count part...

Thanks in advance!

Hello mariqioana,

Could you please check that you are running 64-bit version of PhotoScan? Please also try to re-run the texturing process with opened Task Manager on the memory consumption page and check if the consumption really goes to the upper limit during the process.

Hi,

Yes, I have 64-bit Photoscan version. I re-run the texturing process and now from 3 hours is on the stage Parameterizing texture atlas (70%) with not estimated finishing time, the use of the RAM is not full, only 4GB our of 12.  Then it gave again out of memory message, like previous times...  :-\

Hello mariqioana,

Please post the screenshot of the model overview that you are trying to texture and specify the number of polygons in the model and the reconstruction settings used for the mesh generation.

Hello

Ok, so from the attached photo it is seen tha faces and the options i put for the texture, in this case for the mesh i had a medium quality point cloud and the options for the mesh were (Arbitrary, High for polygons, Diabled Interpolation), but only on this chunk the options are like this and the texturing didnt work.

Other chunks are with high quality point clouds, the mesh options are (Arbitrary, 0 polygons, because with the other options it didnt work, Disabled Interpolation) and there as well the texturing didnt start. Example: one chunk that has 212 cameras, has a mesh with 234 568 685 faces.

Hello mariqioana,

Decimation of mesh with 230 millions of polygons requires over 24 GB RAM, that's why you can only generate it without decimation (using zero polygons count).

And it seems that the same reason causes insufficient memory issue during texturing, as at first high-poly mesh is downsampled and texture atlas is parametrized for mesh with lower polygon count and then applied to high-poly mesh.

But even if texture could be applied to 230 million polygon mesh, I have some doubts than such model can be operated in any 3D viewer application later.
