Extreme resolution texture
« on: February 09, 2016, 03:00:31 PM »
Hello,

I processed with photoscan 2 sides of a long building that is painted by street artist.
I managed to have a 3 millions polygon mesh.
I then went on to make the texture and I managed to make 45000x45000 in one single file (I have 64GB ram), but even so, I do not have enough resolution (compared to original photographs) for my application.
After this size, I run onto RAM limitations.
I tried to change size/count because in the manual it says to do this to obtain higher resolution without running into RAM limitations, but the RAM usage goes crazy before Photoscan is forced to pause by the OS (OS X 10.10.5).
Am I missing something about size/count?
Here is how I chose my parameters:
45000 is too small. 4 times this would be great ;-). so 180kx180k (32.4 gigapixels).
With a size of 20kx20k (0.4 gigapixels), I'd need 81 for count (max is 99 it seems).

I understand my parameters might well be completely crazy.
But then what limits can I expect?
And how to use size/count to increase the limits?

thanks

Why you are not using the option to build more than one texture (texture count in build texture dialog, see attachment)?

I did! using the parameters I gave in first post. Also using lower settings, as 10000px 16count.
I end up with 100-110GB of ram used by Photoscan. Some of that is compressed ram of course as it fits in 64GB. Then the OS pauses Photoscan and give me a chance to quit other ram hungry apps and continue, but Photoscan is already using all...

Hmm, yes now I see.
Unfortunately can't help here.
- Splitting the project in chunks/projects is not possible?
- What about point cloud viewing in Potree?

I checked Potree. Interesting for viewing but I need to make a video where camera moves and 3D is manipulated, things added etc. The camera needs get close to the painted surfaces so I need high res texture.
I will keep the general model with lowish res texture and rebuild also with only painted areas (pretty big, though) to try get high res there (again only texture I need high res, I am happy with the medium polygon count)... Really just starting so discovering as I go.
