Possible to export DXF model with surface in all triangles?
« on: February 11, 2016, 12:06:23 PM »
Hello.

I want to export DXF model that has one surface instead of open triangles (closed triangles?). Is it possible?

Thanks,

S

Hello Sky_hie,

Currently there are two DXF export options: 3D faces and 3D polyline export.

Hello Sky_hie,

Currently there are two DXF export options: 3D faces and 3D polyline export.

Both these export give me open triangles. I want solid surface, like in the solid view in PS... Do I need to use 3rd party software to do this?

3D Face option should work for most programs that read DXF.

What program are you using?

I have tried several programs, only open triangles... dxf 3d face export always creates solid surface??

Thanks,

By "open" you mean you only see a wireframe version ...?    Please post a screenshot.

Yes it is only wireframe Version of the mesh... See attachment

If you see wireframe for 3d face and 3d polyline options, then it is possible the display in the application is set to wireframe. You need to look for info on displaying a shaded view. Can you mention which applications you are using?

Someone may have experience with changing the display settings in those applications.

The problem may not be with the file at all.

Tried in Autocad Revit.. Rhinoceros can show solid when I select shaded... Does that mean that the file contains a solid surface or does the program render the surface based on the wireframe?

You are getting a mesh with triangular facets, and not just a bunch of lines. You can make the mesh a solid if you need it for 3d printing or to get a volume.
