« on: March 12, 2011, 11:21:18 AM »
Hi guys.
I´ve a gtx580 and i want to know wich is the better combination between cpus and gpus usage.
And do I need to install something to use cuda, or just the nvidia driver is enough?

Thanks Guys

Hello cutia,

To use OpenCL acceleration on NVIDIA GPUs it is sufficient to install video drivers with OpenCL support. No special software is required.

To make sure that everything is configured properly, check OpenCL tab in the PhotoScan Preferences dialog box. If your video card is listed in the OpenCL devices list, then you have everything configured properly.

To enable OpenCL acceleration tick the video card to be used in the list of OpenCL devices. It is also recommended to deactivate 1 CPU core for each GPU for optimal performance. If your CPU supports hyper threading, deactivating 2 logical cores for each GPU is recommended.

For example, on the Core i7 CPU (4 cores, 8 threads) with GTX580 GPU setting active CPU cores to 6/8 is recommended for optimal performance.
