Canon 1200D experiences....
« on: April 17, 2015, 03:06:00 PM »
I had a read through this thread and the last two posts on page 8 mention that the 1200D should in theory be as good as the 600D for Photoscan and Photogrammetry, but the person mentioned that they had not had a chance to test yet:

Can anyone confirm or share their experiences with using the 1200D. I was planning to buy one today if people reckon it matches up. Any other suggestions in this budget range would be great. Has to be Canon and has to work with gphoto2.

I'm going to pair it with 50mm mkII lens for an automated cloud (EC2 GPU) connected photogrammetry turntable that I've been working on. Becaue it's controlled by the gphoto2 and software the ergonomics and extra functions are probably redundant.  If it works out I'll probably buy a second to speed up my scanning further. Trying to keep costs down as I'm going to partner with people to beta test my cloud turntable scanner soon.

Your typical reviews on dpreview should suffice for most decision making... looking for sharpness, low noise (at the typical ISO range you're working at), buffer speed (if capturing continuously and timing is critical).. other than that your specific applications may have other requirements, but then it's just a case of making sure those are met.
