Model Compression
« on: March 10, 2016, 01:11:41 AM »
I would like to post some photoscan models on my website using a web based 3d file viewer but the exported PLYs have very large file sizes. Is there a way with photoscan, or some other software, to reduce/compress/adjust the file size of the exported PLY file?

Alternatively, has anyone successfully used retopo software such as blender to open ply or obj files produced by photoscan?
I can get them to import but they are monochrome and I haven't been able to figure out how to get the surface color/texture to display.
Thanks.

Hi fsda,

you can duplicate your chunk or your project and then decimate this duplicate with TOOLS/ MESH/ DECIMATE MESH to your needs. After that you can export the decimated mesh.
