MicaSense image import
« on: April 09, 2016, 08:13:23 AM »
Hello PhotoScan Community,

I am very excited about the addition of multi-spectral camera rigs such as Micasense Rededge. I am currently having problems loading the images into a chunk. I have read the user manual part that describes the instructions to get multiple planes assigned to each camera position. The manual says with RedEdge photos, I can simply select them all and pull them into the chunk and based on metadata know which 5 bands belong together in an image stack. I can't seem to accomplish this. When I add all the image files, it does recognize that that these are multispectral and asks me if i would like to add them as such. However, when the images are in the chunk it doesn't seem to recognize that each camera has 5 frames. So my question is, how do I make this important work correctly? Photoscan doesn't seem to be reading the images and metadata correctly.

I also attempted variant b in the user manual where I put each group of 5 bands into a separate folder before import. Photoscan seems to recognize and do this correctly. But alas, separating all the cameras into different folders is a pain I'd like to avoid.

Any help would be appreciated!

Hello jgillan,

Can you send any 5 images that should correspond to the same camera position to support@agisoft.com?

I had a similar question on this as well. We just purchased this sensor, but I can't seem to get Agisoft to bring up the option to "Create multispectral camera from files as bands".

I have a sample dataset (since i don't have the camera yet), and there are 5 images with the same name, but with spectral band as the suffix in tiff format (ie. img_0554_480.tif, img_0554_560.tif,...). When I add photos as in the help for this, I assume there should be the option to "create multispectral cameras from files as bands" but this never comes up. It just loads the images as 5 separate images.

Am i missing something??

Hello Kevin,

Thank you for sending the example. I've looked at the EXIF information and it appears that Rig Camera Index and Band Name tags are missing for these images.
Is it original image set, or the files have been resaved in some other application?

Hi Alexey,

I assume they are originals, as I downloaded them from the Micasense website under this link:

http://www.micasense.com/rededge/samples.html

I have an email into them as well to see if this is the standard format.

Hello Kevin,

We'll try to investigate why some of the sample images on that page are not working properly. Probably, the published sample data is quite old and actual format already includes the mentioned tags.

Hi Alexey,

Just wondering if you have found anything out further on this? I have talked to Micasense and they indicated these are their formats of imagery. Also, I did try reading into PIX4D to check, and it reads them correctly from what it seems (as it accounts for the lens offsets).

Hopefully you know something further.

Hello Kevin,

We'll try to contact the manufacturers to get more detailed information about the XMP extension tags used for the band index definition in the image header and why they are missing in the most of the samples available for download (except DNG format).

I'm having this same problem. Photoscan won't recognize my photos as a multispectral dtataset. I have a MicaSense REdEdge -M. Photos are 16 bit Tiff format, all 5 bands.  I've checked the EXIF data and all fields, including CameraRig,  RigIndex etc. are all there. I'm using Photoscan Professional 1.3.4 build 5067 (64 bit), also same story with version 1.4.2. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Hello sbarnby,

If you are observing the issues in the latest release version (either 1.4.5 or 1.5.2) please send the sample set (just five bands related to the same camera location) to support@agisoft.com.

OK, thanks for the confirmation. Looks like there was an issue with the proper support of the latest firmware, meta information has not been read properly in the older version of PhotoScan.
