Default DEM Resolution and Scale
« on: April 06, 2016, 11:22:16 PM »
I have been working on building a DEM using historical imagery. The model photoscan constructs appears in the model window to be of a decent spatial resolution and true to form (It is a mountain hillslope ).  But when I arrive at the step of constructing the DEM, the dialog box indicates the proposed DEM's resolution is 1.72322e-05 m/pix! My intuition suggests that this degree of resolution is impossible coming from aerial photos from the 1940's.

Furthermore, if I were to ignore this obvious error/issue and construct and export the DEM, the model has a range of elevations between 3047.96 m and 3047.95 m, and can only be viewed at a scale of 1:0.28

Which variables am I neglecting, and how are they distorting the DEM's true resolution and scale?

Much Thanks

Which coordinate system are you using? If it's local and not georeferenced I can imagine this problem occuring.

When it's not scaled properly it also explains the weird altitude difference.

Hello hornblende86,

My guess is that the camera positions are in WGS84, but in the Reference pane settings the system is set to Local Coordinates by default.

Thank you so much for your help Alexey and Stihl!

That seems to have remedied my issue.

Is there a document explaining each of the new Optimization options? I too have noticed that these are often seemingly randomly ticked when I do Optimize Cameras. Would love to be able to make an informed decision about which ones to tick.

I am capturing small objects ~1 litre volume using a turntable and macro DLSR.

Sorry - I am sure I added this to another thread.
