Can I edit GCPs after a dense point cloud is made?
« on: June 09, 2016, 03:01:15 AM »
After running a project from beginning to end and seeing the results, I realized one of my GCPs had the wrong elevation. I can change the elevation in the Markers area. Is there a way to re-run things after doing this? Do I basically have to start over again? If I don't have to start all over, how far back do I have to go?

When you edit your GCPS you'll need to "optimize" the tie-points (sparse cloud) again in order to apply the changes.

The moment you optimize your tie-points you will lose your Dense Cloud.
I'm actually not sure if you also lose the other products that were based on the Dense cloud such as a DEM or Ortho, but you'll need to rebuild these for the changes to apply to those products as well.

Because of this it's very important to triple check everything before proceeding to generating a Dense Cloud.

When you edit your GCPS you'll need to "optimize" the tie-points (sparse cloud) again in order to apply the changes.

Only if it had already been optimized with the previously incorrect elevation value, and/or needed to be optimized again with the new value.

If the GCPs were only in place for simple scale and orientation then you can just hit the 'update' button and everything will transform 'linearly' without being destroyed, but yes you would need to regenerate orthos and dems etc with the new 'up' direction.

But those aren't GCP's but markers ;) I'd say there's a clear difference between them.
Judging by his initial post I assume that this is what he's going to be using.

I'd say a marker was a marker, until you assign it the coordinates of a position on the ground, and then it becomes a GCP, and whether you click the update button or the optimize button or no button at all or both doesn't have much to do with it.

However all my control points are generally high up building facades (some low down too of course) so i'll admit i could be wrong!

Great info! Thanks. It verifies what I was thinking. I changed the elevation on my GCP, updated, optimized, then rebuilt my Dense cloud and other objects. Whew! I'm just glad I don't have to go back and relocate all my GCPs on the photos.
Thanks again.
