Is it a fresh OS install? If so, did you install the latest video drivers? (I know this sounds like a noobish advice, it really does help sometimes ;) )

+1 for the driver check. If they are latest, try an older version.

Hello Patribu,

Please submit the crash report with any comment indicating that it is sent by you. However, the idea with driver update is good.
Also please check that you are using latest PhotoScan version (1.0.4).

Hello,
is some time past, but here I am again still with the same problem.

I'm using the newest PS version 1.0.4,

I'm using a GeForce GTX 660 with the latest drivers 340.52 (released today, in fact).

But the problem continues. PS crashes once I try to open the GPU preferences.

I had also older NVIDIA drivers installed, but I cannot go through all the versions, there are too many. But always the same problem.

@Alexey: Where can I find the crash report to sent it to you?

Best regrads

PS: One question by MARCEL I did not answer: My OS is not fresh.... so to say. I have a second workstation which has a 'fresher' install and the same Graphic card. I will test PS there in a few hours and see what happens.

Hello Patribu,

We've received the crash report, but it seems to be related to the older version. Could you please use crash reported to send the new report right after the application crash?

Hello, yes I saw your PM and I answered via PM.

It's strange, since I tried to do a fresh install of PS last time I downloaded the new version of it. I do not understand why the data of the old data of the 1.0.2 version is there. Probably just undeleted old stuff.

Also, there was never a crash report, when PS crashed.

Just a few minutes ago, when I wanted to video record the behavior, suddenly the problem was gone.  Do not ask me why. I tried everything during a few months to resolve the problem, but never with success, and now, suddenly it works.

Well, that's like that. I don't understand it.

Anyhow, thanks for the support.
Cheers

Hi,
I am having the same problem on a machine running windows server 2012. As soon as I click the OpenCL tab, Photoscan crashes.

I described the problem in Agisoft Crash Reporter as well. I am thinking this may be an issue with the drivers - With the current operating system, I don't know if I can update to the most recent drivers, but I am also using brand new NVidia Tesla K80s in this server, so they cant be too out of date.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hello edtriplett,

Is it correct that you are using Windows Remote Desktop connection? It has issues with remote GPU utilization and use the software emulator (GDI generic). So I can suggest to try TeamViewer or similar application and check if it works properly with OpenCL devices.

I first thought that Remote desktop was the problem, so I tried Teamviewer and it happened again. Finally, I checked the server locally and the same crash occurred.

The Teslas are the only cards installed on the server. Could the problem be with the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter that is actually running the display?

Driver Version: 6.3.9600.16384

Thanks for your help Alexey.

Hello edtriplett,

Please submit the crash report for the local crash situation, unless you've done this already.

Thanks. I submitted a crash report.

I also added some text above just after you replied about the display driver.

Thanks :)

Hello edtriplett,

In case you don't have any dedicated OpenGL rendering device, I can suggest to update the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter.

Also you can try downloading GPUCaps or similar utility and see, if they see all the OpenGL/OpenCL devices correctly.

I was just having this problem with a brand new laptop. I have an NVIDIA Qaudro M5000M GPU. Seems to have been fixed when I went into the NVIDIA Control Panel and changed "3D Settings -> Manage 3D Settings -> OpenGL Rendering GPU" to the installed GPU (not Auto-Select). Also changed the PhysX processor to the GPU for good measure.
