Export to 3D viewer
« on: July 12, 2016, 10:44:50 PM »
I have seen that with the Demo Installation I have a Viewer included to open some kind of Agisoft files.

For UAV projects are there other ways to export files to other 3D viewer for the client, withouth the need of install programs or tools on their systems?

I would like to have a simple 3d model with the possibility to switch from textured to point cloud view

Thanks for helping.

Hello GrinGEO,

Not sure, if there are any formats that do not require any applications to open them.

In principle you can export textured model to 3D PDF (Adobe Viewer is required to open them), but usually you won't be able to save high-poly mesh or high-resolution texture.
As an alternative, you can use direct uploads or mesh/point clouds to Sketchfab, 4DMapper or PointScene.

3D PDF doesn't work unfortunately. Whats about FBX Export? That seems to work and I can open it with the Autodesk FBX viewer, unfortunately it is placed on wrong axis and it doesn't have any texture

Hello GrinGEO,

What doesn't work with PDF? What is the number of polygons in the exported model and texture atlas size?

As for the FBX in the viewer you might have options to define the vertical axis, like Y-up by default, for example, in PhotoScan it is Z-up. And as for the texture, make sure that you have switched to the textured view mode and the texture file is exported and is present inthe same folder with the opened FBX file.

39.402.017 points
5.514.088 faces

unfortunately while exporting to pdf I cannot change any settings

Hello GrinGEO,

5 million polygons may be too much for the 3D PDF. Usually we suggest to use 50 000 - 200 000 polygons for mesh export to this format and texture atlas of 4096 pix size. You can use decimate mesh option in the Tools Menu, but it will discard current mesh, so you either need to duplicate the chunk or discard the changes, also the texture should be rebuilt on the decimated mesh.

also with reduced polygons PDF doesn't work. But sketchfab worked like a charm...
thanks for helping

Hello GrinGEO,

Are you using latest version of Adobe Reader to open PDF?

need to check, I have Foxit reader.

Im wondering if I export a 3d model as Google KMZ I can upload it on sketchfab without problem, but Google Earth will not open the file. google Earth opens only from agisoft exported Orthopotos as KMZ file

GoogleEarth may have problems with the files that are larger than 2 GB. Also you can check that the model doesn't appear to be under the surface.

those 3D model files are only 30-200MB large, but they are not visible on google earth or earth is not able to load it...

but it doesn't matter, sketchfab works great for this

I have done some tests....

500.000 poligons & 8k texture
https://sketchfab.com/models/16dad2c722224e8eb1a132c416724b77

and it looks like the version with 16k texture doesnt look so good...

any idea?
