Orthorectified images
« on: July 25, 2016, 05:39:18 PM »
We are looking for a step by step workflow to get from an agisoft composite photo to an orthorectified photo using the tachymeter for reference points. More specifically what we want to do is shoot kite photos, put them together and to rectify them, and then use this undistorted, plain images to draw plans from them. We are archaeologists, and using the Standard edition.

Hello Fiona,

Unfortunately, the features that you have mentioned (reference points, orthphotos export) are available in the Professional edition of PhotoScan only. The results achieved in the Standard edition come unscaled.

You can try using Professional edition with the free trial license key to see if it suits your needs.
Best regards,

Thanks very much for your response.  We have now upgraded to the professional edition.  Could you help with the workflow?

Hello Fiona,

The process of ground control points placement is described in the following tutorial:
http://www.agisoft.com/pdf/PS_1.2%20-Tutorial%20(BL)%20-%20Orthophoto,%20DEM%20(with%20GCPs).pdf
In principle, if you are using coded-targets, you can ease the process using automatic detection of the targets. After images are aligned and marker projections are placed on the corresponding images you can load the coordinate information for the markers (from the csv file or manually). Then press Update button on the Reference pane to apply the transform (also you can use Optimize button to improve the alignment results).

In case you are interested in just undistorted images then you can use Undistort option in the Tools menu after the alignment or optimization is finished.
In case you wish to save the orthorectified images, you need to generate some kind of surface first - mesh or DEM and then build orthomosaic.
