Exporting visual DEM with Contours
« on: July 28, 2016, 03:29:07 PM »
Im wondering if there is any simple way to export the visual DEM model insteat of creating a black/white TIF that need to be processed in other GIS tools.

Some clinets just want the visualised DEM as I can see it in Photoscan directly. If I do a screenshot, I have only low res.

Is there any way to export this in higher res?

Thanks for helping

Hello GrinGEO,

Exported GeoTIFF should be opened correctly in almost any GIS application. PhotoScan doesn't create black/white TIFF files - DEM is saved as floating point values for each grid node, and is you open such file in common image viewer (not dedicated to GIS input/output) it will be more likely displayed as black frame for no-data area and white color for covered area.

exactly... the exportet DEM is a grayscale TIF with altitude informations

is there any way to export the colored DEM that is viewable in Agisoft as image, since client does not have any GIS software

Thanks

Hi GrinGEO,

Since you're saying the exported elevation GeoTIFF DEM is shown to you as a grayscale TIFF in a GIS, I'm assuming based on this that you use QGIS?

If so, that grayscale visualisation is the fault of your settings in QGIS. Not of the file created from Photoscan.

When viewed in a Global Mapper, it automatically colors the DEM based on the elevation values. QGIS doesn't do this by default when you load the file into it.

What you need to generate, for your client, is a simple PDF. As is it's a vector file the DEM will look as sharp as it looks in Photoscan.

Both QGIS and Global Mapper can export an elevation GeoTIFF as a PDF file. Perhaps even Photoscan can export it, not sure? (not talking about a 3D Model PDF!!) However in QGIS you first need to properly setup the visualisation before it looks as it does in Photoscan (Or Global Mapper).

My question was if Phtoscan can directly export something like this colored DEM withouth any other GIS Tools...
since clients are not able to overlap those images.

If this feature could be added, it would be great. Since Agisoft is already able to show it, it would make sense to have an export feature as well

As far as I know Photoscan cannot do that.

What's wrong with using a GIS software package if you're working for a client?

we are new too in Aerial Survey and Im not used with GIS tools unfortunately. So I hoped there is a simple way to export it...

when I open the file in QGis the TIFs are stretched, so it does not look good

Understandable. Perhaps Agisoft will implement such feature in the future.

Perhaps this link is interesting for you. It shows in a few steps how to create a hillshaded view just like you see in Photoscan.
As a tip; you can save the 'style' as a template for easy future use.

Hi,

I'm looking for the same task, but the plugin for QGIS "Color Ramp Manager" isn't updated anymore... So impossible to use it. Any new alternative since the last post ?
