Use of markers
« on: August 08, 2016, 05:28:32 AM »
Can markers be placed manually on photos to assist in alignment?

Let's say you're shooting something that has minimal recognizable qualities and those that it does have tend to repeat (like a basketball), making the object symmetrical.

Can I, as the user, place markers on photos that identify definite points on the object?  And then "align photos".

Or not?

Thanks.

Jon

PS.  If not, it might be handy to implement this.

Hello Jon,

You can do that, but please keep in mind that automatically found matching points are usually more accurate than manually placed marker projections, also the number of automatic tie points can be hundreds and thousands times higher than markers, so the stability of alignment based on the automatic matching points is usually much better.

Alexey,  Right.  Okay.  I have noticed that manually placed markers often do not "register" automatically on other photos, that is, they don't always line up.  But I get what you're saying.  Best to let the software locate its own tie points.

Thanks.
