Camera calibration board
« on: August 09, 2012, 04:24:39 PM »
Hello!

I'm having a small problem.
Currently I can't use Agisfot Lens for calibrating my camera Nikon D800E with 35mm lens.
The view is so wide I can't find a suitable and big enough LCD to take sharp photos that are needed to do a good calibration with optimal coverage of the calibration area.
So far I got my camera over to my friend who owns some other software which gives him a possibility to print/plot large scale calibration board. He made me a calibration which I then could convert using Lens. I think the board was about 1.5m wide.

Well... I'd like to ask you if there is a way I can do the same as my friend, like use a Cad software and make my own chessboard which I could then plot and take pictures for calibrating.
I would be really greateful if the answer is at least "it's possible". :)
If so, then I'll try to test the theory myself and see what results I get.

With best regards, Boris.

Hello Boris,

Yes, you can print a chessboard and use it for camera calibration.
But please make sure that all sides of squares are equal, all angles are square and the surface the chessboard is attached to is flat.
