Better selection tools

I often have a pointcloud of a box with an object inside.
With the selection tools it is difficult to remove the object since I select both the box and the object.

Would it be possible to adjust the bounding box to show only a part of the pointcloud, select and remove the object, and then show the whole pointcloud again?

You can not currently avoid selecting the box and its content, but you can rotate the scene and deselect parts by holding shift. this way you can refine your selection quite well. The thing I really hate, but no one else seem to second my claim is the freehand selection. I'd rather love polygonal selection by entering vertices.
