Unexpected results from scan
« on: October 09, 2016, 12:57:44 AM »
I am wondering what would cause this type of point cloud scatter? Almost looks like a shotgun blast. I used nikon d3200, iso 400, High Fstop low Shutter Speed. The prop was on a turn table in a light tent. I rotated it in 10 degree increments and took bottom mid and upper shots. About 150 pics. First problem i see is only 42 of the pics were aligned. I did vary the shot between 30-55mm so maybe that caused the prob?

Hello Bryan3D,

Looks like you should mask the background before aligning the images.

Hi - I was getting the same problem while turning the object on a background, that could be modelled from the images (and that was stabile). I suggest make masks and try again :)

Hi All

So with the masks

1. Do I use the import / mask feature and if so which settings? Background, difference??
2. Or do i just create a mask for each image in photoshop? A typical black white mask?

Hello Bryan3D,

If you have created masks in the external application (like Photoshop) and saved them as b&w images: use From File + Replacement, if you saved them in the image alpha-channel, then use From Alpha + Replacement.

If you have shot background images for every camera position use, then you need to select From Background + Replacement.

Note that options Replacement/Difference/Union/Intersection means how the existing mask for the image and mask being imported should be treated for a new mask creation.
