OpenCl error
« on: November 21, 2016, 04:51:57 PM »
I am having trouble building my dense cloud. I get an error that says "Cant initialize OpenCL". If I uncheck the Intel Graphics Family box under Tools->Preferences->OpenCL it will work fine. It has worked in the past with OpenCL.
I am not knowledgeable about computers, but I believe the OpenCL is related to my video card? I attempted to build a point cloud without the OpenCL and it ran for 117 hours and never completed. Its not that many images, it shouldnt take that long.
Please help.
Thanks,
Stephen

Hello Stephen,

We do not recommend to use integrated graphic cards, like Intel HD for intensive computations. The discrete graphic cards are more suitable for such kind of calculations.

So I suggest to uncheck Intel card in the OpenCL tab of the Preferences window. I assume that some task is sent to the GPU, but due to some issues (probably with the out-dated drivers) the task is never completed - all other sub-jobs have been processed by CPU, but the task sent to GPU couldn't be re-arranged. But you can try to update the graphic card drivers.

Could you please enable writing the log to the external file and provide it for the further analysis? In case you have that instance of PhotoScan opened, you can copy the log from the Console pane.

Here is the report. I had to cancel the dense point cloud process in order to get the report.

Hello Stephen,

I means the output from the Console pane or log redirected to file via "Write log to file" option in the PhotoScan Preferneces window.
