Build Mesh issue
« on: December 06, 2016, 08:49:22 PM »
This problem has been occurring more and more frequently lately. Once I have aligned the photos, deleted the surrounding points that I don't need, I build a dense cloud at "Medium" and then finally once I am ready to build a mesh at "Medium", the loading bar will usually get stuck at some point. Sometimes its at 89%, sometimes its at 35%. But it will stop, and I have left the computer running for hours and hours afterwards and it will not move. Has anybody else had this issue? I am using the trial version. My projects are not very complex. I use 40-50 iPhone images max. Any help would be really appreciated.  Thank you.

Hello aramarutyunyan,

I can suggest to open the Console pane and to redirect the output to the text file using Write log to file option in the Preferences  window. It will allow to see at what exact step the processing gets stuck. If you can check the resource manager for the memory commit and CPU utilization it would more likely answer the question, if the processing has gone to swap or not.

Note that if you are processing the mesh using Arbitrary option, the number of polygons that you define in the Build Mesh dialog doesn't matter much for the resource consumption, as PhotoScan generates the model in the highest possible resolution and then decimates it to the given number of faces.

Also please specify the computer hardware specs (CPU, GPU, RAM, OS version).

Hello Alexey,

I tried what you recommended and as I wait to read what step the issue has occurred in, the issue just went away. So far I have not come across the issue but at least now I will know what it is when it happens. Thank you very much for the quick response!

Best,

barbara

Hello Alexey

I have a similar problem as aramarutyunyan with generating mesh. In the logfile, it says "Generating mesh", in the "processing in progess" window, I can see that it takes about 6 hours to calculate the mesh. After this time, the "time left" disappears in the processing window, but progress remains 6%, even if I wait for several hours. There is no mesh generated. I repeated starting the generation of the mesh already 3 times, it's always the same problem.

You can see an extract of the logfile here:
2016-12-19 19:43:50 Generating mesh...
2016-12-19 19:43:50 Grid size: 22211 x 7102 x 7280
2016-12-19 19:43:50 Tree depth: 15

2016-12-20 08:33:29 ARB_texture_non_power_of_two: supported
2016-12-20 08:33:37 Loading project...
2016-12-20 08:33:38 loaded project in 0.912 sec

It seems that there happens nothing after starting the mesh. At 08:33:29, I restarted Agisoft by taskmanager.
What could I do to get the mesh calculated?
Thanks in advance

Barbara

Hello barbara,

According to the log data (grid size and tree depth) you are building mesh basing on high-resolution dense cloud, so it seems that there's insufficient memory available. What's the size of the dataset, image resolution, dense cloud quality and point number and also the computer RAM?

Also specify the project type. If it is aerial survey data, then you can consider building DEM based on dense cloud and using DEM as a source for the orthomosaic creation process.

Hello Alexey
Thanks a lot for your speedy answer. It's true that my project is quite large...

size of the dataset: 4.8 GB
Resolution: 7360x4912
Dense cloud: 188'000'000 Points
Type: arbitrary
RAM: 64 GB

I managed to get a mesh based on a little bit smaller dense point cloud (152'000'000 Points). Seems that the additional 36'000'000 points are too much. If it is a problem of insufficient memory, I wonder why there is no corresponding message. This would be helpful.

It is aerial survey data, so I'll try building DEM. Thanks a lot for this hint!

Hello barbara,

The application may be trying to allocate the memory suing disk swap, so there's no error message.
