Bachelor Work - Canyon Scanning - Scanner Movement
« on: January 03, 2017, 11:16:08 AM »
Hi there,

for my bachelor work I'm scanning a natural area into the game engine. I already made some test scans of small parts of the canyon, here: https://skfb.ly/XZTw (with 18mm lens). Next time I'm taking 12mm with me.

I thought hard about most efficient movement while scanning the whole canyon.  What is the most efficient movement? I made three sketches of three possible movement scenarios: (see .jpg attachement)

1st: panoramatic movement รก "google maps" - move a few steps and make 360 coverage

2nd: scan the walls forward/ backward and connect left and right

3rd: just corridor movement back and forth (would model connect this way?)

footnote question:
does photoscan need chronological order of overlaping photos? If I am going to be scanning with 1st option - do I need to end with camera facing forward, make step, turn around, face forward and again ... so that agisoft knows how to connect them?

Thank you very much. M.
