Horizontal distances

Just confirming that measurements between markers are horizontal, not slope and not along the terrain.

If I use a projected coordinate system such as GDA94/MGA56, are the distances all grid distances rather than ground distances (at mean terrain height)? Ie. distances are affected by the scale factor?

Hello James,

If you mean Ruler tool, the use of Scale Bar instances and Planar tab of Measure Shape dialog, then yes, it's 2D distance without the surface shape being considered. However, in the Profile tab of Measure Shape dialog you can find the length of the profile corresponding to the shape that is based on the DEM surface (if available).
