Noisy Dense Cloud
« on: February 10, 2017, 06:55:58 PM »
I've been trying to complete a project of a side elevation of a building. The photos import correctly and the cameras are all aligned in the correct positions. I clean up the sparse cloud and then put it in to build the dense cloud using the following settings:

quality = medium
depth filtering = mild.

But once the dense cloud is produced it appears to have large chunks of noise in some areas (my best description is that it looks like thick snow!). They don't correspond to any points in the sparse cloud and tend to appear mostly around the roof.

Any suggestions as to what may be causing this and how to get rid (apart from deleting from the dense cloud which I've already tried!)?

I'm no expert but have you tried using aggressive depth filtering?

Hi Sirius,
Thanks for the suggestion! It's cleaned up the worst of it but still chunks of noise around the guttering on the roof.

Hi ZeeJay,

maybe it helps to mask the sky around the roof.

i`m also notice deterioration of filtering depth maps between 1.26 and 1.3 especially on the outline sharp edges of model (aggressive mode)

but final mesh usually looks ok - sometimes - set without masks - have to create some masks and use "select points by mask" - then delete them and start meshing again
