GPU image alignment causes computer to crash
« on: February 09, 2017, 10:44:39 AM »
Hi,

I just updated to the latest version of Photoscan and wanted to try the GPU features.

I enabled both the GPUs and as long as the GPUs are used, the PC either crashes or the program completely crashes and I have to force restart the computer. The project files are locked and I cannot use them.

I am using 2 x ATI FirePRO V4900 on Windows 10 Pro with the latest drivers.

I unchecked the GPUs and the alignment process works fine.

Is it a driver problem?

Hello sakaic,

The graphic card is quite old and the latest driver is dated by the year 2015, so it may be something to do with the driver issue.

Do you have similar problems with dense cloud generation on GPU? Were you observing any problems in the previous release?

Hello,

I had the same problem, when I was testing the Demoversion of Photoscan 1.3. After counting image features of about 50 images from 300 the computer froze and I had to restart it.

I am using a Lenovo P50 with:
  • Win 10
  • Nvidia Quadro M1000M
  • Intel HD Graphics 530

Hello Luca,

Have you used both Quadro and Intel HD for GPU-based matching? What happens if you use only one of them (which GPU is actually causing the issue)?
And also were you using latest 1.3.0 build 3772?

Hello Alexey,

yes I have used both of them for GPU-based matching.

I don't know, I downloaded the setup yesterday evening.

Later when I have access to my Notebook again, I will test the GPUs individually and let you know which version exactly I used. Most probably I can write you more this evening or tomorrow morning.

Hello Luca,

Ok, thank you. I can also suggest to update GPU drivers and if the processing is stalled, provide the console pane output information (beginning of the process from the very first lines and last lines before the freeze).

Hello Alexey,

I am using the latest build (3772) of the Standart Demoversion. The Problem is the "Intel HD Graphics 530", all drivers are installed but the computer keeps crashing like sakaic wrote.

Log File:
Code: [Select]
2017-02-09 18:44:24 Agisoft PhotoScan Standard Version: 1.3.0 build 3772 (64 bit)

2017-02-09 18:44:25 OpenGL Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation
2017-02-09 18:44:25 OpenGL Renderer: Quadro M1000M/PCIe/SSE2
2017-02-09 18:44:25 OpenGL Version: 4.5.0 NVIDIA 376.54

2017-02-09 18:44:25 Quad Buffered Stereo: not enabled
2017-02-09 18:44:25 ARB_vertex_buffer_object: supported
2017-02-09 18:44:25 ARB_texture_non_power_of_two: supported
2017-02-09 18:44:41 LoadProject
2017-02-09 18:44:41 Loading project...
2017-02-09 18:44:46 loaded project in 5.003 sec
2017-02-09 18:44:46 Finished processing in 5.004 sec (exit code 1)

Before the crash it counts feature points for a few images. If I only choose the Nvidia GPU it is working perfectly.

Ok. Basically it looks like my card is too old. "Upgraded" to Quadro 6000 and all is well
