Scaling factors when importing mesh into 3D Software
« on: August 14, 2012, 01:05:04 PM »
Hi there,

I import my meshes from photoscan into Maya. Generally I then align these meshes with simple geometry from surveys. However before aligning the two I have to scale the mesh to match the scale of the survey. Does anyone know if there are set scaling factors or if there is a way to import a mesh from photoscan so that it is already at the same scale?

I usually start with scaling the mesh by 24 times and then scaling by slight graduations by hand to match. From now on I will note down how much this scale factor is and see if there is a general rule and post back my findings. However, if anyone has any pointers or thoughts on this please let me know.

PRO version offer way to do it precisely, with Ground control, you can set 2 points and then a distance and afther that it will have the right size.....

Hey Wishgranter,

Thanks for that. Unfortunately I am using Standard version as I don't need all the Pro capabilities, but it is worth knowing this is in the pro version. Any other thoughts?

then try something like this: when shooting, make some "markers" with constant size, that afther that can without doubt set in MAYA/ANY 3D app some object, like CUBE or better checker board, or something better and colerate in that app. Could understand what im meaning ?  see attachment

Wishgranters idea is good, or you can pop into this thread and help support me get this feature integrated into Agisoft Standard and Pro.

A Gizmo tool to set scale, orientation and position correctly in World-space.

+1 if you can, to show support by numbers.
