DEM model with different orientation
« on: February 21, 2017, 11:25:53 AM »
Hi,

I built DEM model from a set of photos two times. It is worth to mention that I scaled both of the models and then referenced them using the following command input to the Console pane.
“PhotoScan.app.document.chunk.transform.matrix = PhotoScan.app.document.chunk.transform.matrix”

Given that the model orientation in each simulation is different, I have different DEM model in each simulation. I know that before using the command it is possible to set up the model orientation with the help of Rotate Object instrument. But we cannot claim that using the changing model orientation manually, we have the same orientation at the end. Is there any solution to get the same DEM model automatically?

Thanks.
Mina

Hello Mina,

What is the criterion that models' orientation in coordinate space is "the same"?

Hello Alexey,

If we have different model orientations, it means that we will get different DEM models, am I right?
Actually, I have markers spread around the desired object which have different coordinates in two models. How can I fix the markers in two models in the same positions? Here, I attached the DEM models.

Hello Mina,

You can apply the model orientation via script to the first chunk and then use Marker Based chunk alignment procedure, using the first chunk as a reference.

Hello Alexey,

Thank you for your quick reply. Could you please explain it a bit more? I did not have any experience regarding scripting in PhotoScan!

Hello Alexey,

If I use the Marker Based chunk alignment using the first chunk as a reference, I have to scale the second chunk beforehand?

Hello Mina,

You do not need to scale the second chunk, as it's scale be automatically adjusted to the scale of the reference chunk. Just leave "keep scale" option unchecked.
