Point colors 1.3 -> 1.2
« on: March 08, 2017, 08:38:25 PM »
When I convert a project from 1.3 to a 1.2 PSZ project file, the point colors are all just very strange RGB colors (in both the sparse and dense point cloud).

I've tried on different computers just to check, but the problem is the same. I assume this is due to some incompatibility between the versions, but it seems that creating a 1.2 PSZ archive should allow the colors to be correctly preserved.

I'm attaching a screenshot of the two point clouds for your reference.

In digging around the files some, the biggest changes I note that could affect this are:

1) the doc.xml in the point_cloud from version 1.3.0 has bands listed in int
2) the tracks.ply file has changed uchar to ushort

Are these not addressed when exporting to a 1.2 PSZ file?

Hello neshmi,

You can save the project in older version compatible format only using PSZ (PhotoScan Archive) option. Currently there's no option to save the project in PSX formation in 1.2 version compatibility mode, so the point clouds generated from non 8-bit data may be displayed incorrectly, if you try to open 1.3 PSX project in the older version.

Good morning Alexey,

So, point clouds generated from non 8-bit data, such as a 16-bit tiff, have no way to be saved for earlier versions of PhotoScan? The point clouds will always be incorrectly colored? Is there any way to work around this?

Not everyone is adopting version 1.3 right now, and as such, it is important to be able to work between the two versions independently of the input data.

Cheers

Hello neshmi,

You can save the project in PSZ format using Save As option and selecting version 1.2 format option.

That didn't work. That is actually what I am trying to say. I did export a PSZ from 1.3, the sparse point cloud and dense point cloud both have colour issues (as shown by the attached images - that is from the PSZ opened in 1.2.6, exported from 1.3). This was indeed produced from 16bit TIFFS.

Cheers. Let me know if you need any other information. I don't know that I can share all of the data, but I might be able to get specifics or details along the way as you might need.

Thanks!
