Hello barrubba,

According to the specification, dual 1060 should be better than single 1070 or single 980, but worse than single 980Ti. Single 1070 should be more or less on the same level with single 980.

GTX 1060 don't support SLI, careful.
Best regards.

SLI is not necessary for PhotoScan.

Hello barrubba,

Starting from the version 1.3 PhotoScan is using CUDA for NVIDIA cards, so you can check some CUDA tests for comparison. And just for rough estimation you can compare the number of CUDA cores for the graphic cards.

in terms of cuda core, we have
1060 : 1152/1280 (3/6gb) > 2x120W     200 euro x2
1070 : 1920                         > 150 W        400 euro
so it's better 1060 in terms of cuda/price, but in terms of power?

980 :2048                            > 165W          300 euro

980 win cuda/price/power!! ?? or not?

seems to win 1070..
test don't take into account cuda?

More weak GPUs are better according to this test from 2015:

Hello Shaav,

In the latest update there were some optimization for multi-GPU systems, also depth maps generation process has been generally optimized in the version 1.3.

hi,

same question here.

We have the choice between 2x 6 GB Palit GTX1060 Dual or 1x 8GB Palit GTX1080
in combination with an Intel i7-6900K proecessor and 128 GB RAM.

What would you prefer?

Thanks and regards
Phil

Hello Phil,

In terms of PhotoScan performance these configurations would be nearly equal. So you can decide depending on the power consumption and possible upgrades in future.

Do not use Nvidia cards. Use AMD card, they are faster. I have 2 amd fury x and 2 gtx 1080 ti, but amd works faster. I processed nearly 11000 images.

Quick question: In the new version of PhotoScan since 1.3 , when using a dual GPU setup, is it still advisable to have a CPU with higher number of cores, since one core will be disabled per CPU?

I'm looking at a system with Dual GTX 1080's (not in SLI) + either an intel i7 7700K (4 cores) or an intel i7 6800K (6 cores).
