Effect of cluster mode on hardware choice
« on: March 24, 2017, 07:07:56 PM »
Much has been said about hardware and benchmarks, but how does cluster mode influence these choices?

Some questions:

1. How does cluster mode affect operations for the individual steps? What is actually split bewteen nodes?
2. In which steps does cluster mode result in less RAM requirements, and where is there no effect?
3. In which cases is it wise not to choose fine level segmentation and why?

We are going to invest in a large cluster but I wonder wether it makes sense to have many low level machines for parallel steps and one or two very large-RAM, powerful machines for the tasks which cannot be split. Comments?
