Classify Ground Points failed
« on: March 07, 2017, 11:37:08 AM »
Hi everyone,

We usually use the Classify Ground Points tool in our works (street mapping) and sometimes, with no reason, it failed !
We try to exact ground point from 3D street model with those kind os parameters:
- Max angle: 15° to 25° (depend on the slope of the street)
- Max distance: 0.5m
- Celle size: 50m

Sometimes it works perfectly, sometimes we get no classified points, and some times only a small 2m triangle of classified points. Something very frustrating because we cannot do many things again those results.

Thanks for your help !

Hello Yoann,

We would require the sample project, where you have issues with the classification.

Hello Yoann,

Original photos are not required, also you can remove depth maps, mesh, ortho and DEM from the project, is they are present to reduce the file size. If you can share the link via any file transfer service, it will be fine, or we can create an ftp account for you.

Hello Yoann,

We have classified both chunks in the provided project using your settings and the result looks adequate (25 degrees, 0.5 m, 50 m). Although, we've used intermediate internal version of PhotoScan Pro.

I will send you the project back.

Hello Alexey,

Thanks a lot for the time you spent on my project.
However, this project is an example of classification problems I have to handle every day.
Then it's quite difficult to optimise and automate the workflow when its success is a bit random. (And I would also prefer not to ask you each time I run into classification fail ;D)

I would like to ask you if this "internal version" will be release one day ? If yes when ?

Regards

Hello Yoann,

The version we have used is pre-version of 1.3.1, so it's functionality will be full available, when the version 1.3.1 is released.

As for the parameters, if you are working with more or less similar projects, then the same set of parameters should work for every project. But still, if there's the combination of the classification parameters for the project that you have provided that leads to the invalid results, let me know and we'll try to reproduce the issue.

Hello Alexey !

Thanks for those informations. Is there any release date planned for this version 1.3.1 ? Or even just a period of the year during which it should be available ?

Hello Alexey,

I guess I'm a bit too hungry, but may you have any news about 1.3.1 release ?
