Simple stitch for difficult terrain
« on: June 09, 2017, 11:51:01 PM »
Hi all,

I have been attempting to create orthomosics of fairly difficult terrain (i.e. images of grasslands without many distinguishing landmarks).  Even with streams flowing through that should increase the likelihood of success I am having little or now success aligning photos.

My question is, would adding markers across the terrain (either coded or non coded) and decreasing the number of key points, increase my ability to create a fused mosaic?

Additionally, if the metadata of gps are included in each photo, is there a simpler stitching process (i.e. non-georeferenced, non-3d) i could implement in photoscan?

Thank you for any help you all might be able to provide!

Did you try medium quality instead of high when aligning?

Egingras,

I did try it at each quality level to no avail!

Thank you for the suggestion though.

Please tell more about the associated data. Camera? Flying height?

Can you take a screenshot of some of your initial results?

Thanks for the reply Jerimiah

I have been photographing using the stock camera on a DJI phantom Pro3 (12Mp; f=2.8; 94deg F.O.V) at varying altitudes (10,15,20m) with 65-70% overlap.  There is some significant vignette distortion (I am not sure if this is the correct term, but I mean distortion around the edges of the photos) at these altitudes which may be contributing to my issues.

I have only semi-successfully stitched one orthomosaic (images attached), but it coves an area with significant features (i.e. road and large shrubs-attached).  The others I have tried are much much worse (and I have included a representative photo from one of those attempts.

Thank you for any help you can provide!

And the failed stitch!  I have solved the white balance issues apparent in this mosaic, but it seems like the least 'landmark-y' area to the left side of the image is where the software is struggling.
