Orthophoto exports with blurred background
« on: July 06, 2017, 05:11:44 AM »
How can I stop my orthophotos exporting with a blurred background? (see attachment)
I want to import to GIS but it imports with a blurred background around the photo part..
thanks

Hello louisedando94,

As far as I understand, it is not an orthomosaic, but the texture generated using orthophoto mapping mode.

The area around the texture atlas chart is filled with the interpolated colors. If you export the texture in PNG/TIFF format it would contain the alpha-channel with the transparency information that would help to display only used area.

Hi louisedando94,

You could also digitise a polygon on the orthophoto that outlines the area you would like to export. Here is the workflow:

1. Double click on your orthomosaic in the Workspace pane to open the orthomosaic
2. Click on the DRAW POLYGON icon in the main toolbar (pentagon shape)
3. Draw a polygon that covers the area you want to export. Double click to close the polygon.
4. Right click onto the polygon > SET BOUNDARY TYPE > OUTER BOUNDARY

If you export the orthophoto (or DEM) now, it will include everything inside the polygon. Note that this outer boundary will also be used for the imagery in your processing report.

Let me know if it worked for you.

Hello louisedando94,

Have you tried to open the exported texture file in common image viewing applications - do you see the interpolated colors there?

SAV's advice is good. I always create a polygon to set my outer boundary. Also, maybe turn OFF hole filling for ortho building.

What one of the icons is the draw polygon option?
I am using the standard version of photoscan..

Which format you are using for the texture export? PNG and TIFF formats supports alpha-channel for transparency, providing that you have checked on Write Alpha option in the Export Model dialog.

I don't have any format option when I export, all I get is the option to choose the file type..

Hello louisedando94,

Please try File Menu -> Export Model, then choose OBJ file type, select Save Texture option and Write Alpha.

Hi Alexey,
Still doesn't work.. I am still getting that blurred border (see attachment) this is what it looks like when I put it into ArcMap. I don't want the blurred background. It didn't use to export like that, I use to only get the image with no background colour..
Thanks

Hi louisedando94,

You have to open your orthomosaic or DEM to be able to see the digitsing (draw point, draw line, draw polygon tools).
In the screenshot you posted I can see that you've only opened the MODEL, not the ORTHOMOSAIC.

Hello SAV,

It's Standard edition - there's no shape drawing instruments.
