Error: Can't write pyramid data

I'm getting an error message when I try to generate orthomosaic. The error comes at the end of the generation process.

Finished processing in 902.188 sec (exit code 0)
Error: Can't write pyramid data

The orthomosaic is pretty big, by pix size it's 59980x74348.

Has anyone else encountered this issue?

Hello declan,

Such message usually indicates that there are connection issues, if you are working with network or external drive, or there's insufficient disk space.

Thank you. The orthomosaic turned out to be 100Gb in size which is less HDD space than I had.

I get this message when trying to Build Orthomosaic:

I am using version 1.2.4 64 bit and am having trouble building an orthomosaic. I get an error saying "2016-03-31 07:57:17 Error: Can't write pyramid data"
What could be causing this error ?

I am having the same problem, previous response says it is in connection with available space on the drive. I have 480GB of free internal SSD and don't think this can be the reason. Project is large, 20540 images spanning a project of 33,591,999 points.
V1.2.3 64bit.

Please help as I need to get this project delivered asap!

Hello Jim,

What is the surface option selected for the orthomosaic generation - mesh or DEM? Also are there very oblique images in the set that have absolute values for roll and pitch more than 30-35 degrees?

Also please specify if the input images are 8-bit RGB images or 16-/32-bit images or 4+ band TIFFs.

I am also getting the same errormessage when  Building 0.05m Orthomosaic from the Mesh(1.8mill points, 1067 images, 4 good GCP's + 2 checkpoints)
I am also using version 1.2.4 64 bit, build 2399 with all data on a local SSD-disk with plenty of free space.
Images are 24bit JPG,  16Mpix.
Orthomosaic 38720*39140 pixels, blending mode: Mosaic, color correction Enabled.
Some few images are a bit oblique but absolute values pitch is less than 25 degrees.

Creating the Orthomosaic from DEM works, but with VERY bad colors, see attached.

Hello eriks,

Have you tried running the orthomosaic generation without color correction on DEM to see if the colors of the product are fine?

Also please specify the number of polygon in the Mesh that is used for the mesh-based orhtomosaic generation.

Thanks, I got it working by removing unnecessary chunks in the project, and reducing the area a bit and using the mesh with 1.87mill faces, 0.9mill vertices.
Now the colours are good thanks!

Hi,

Just got this error with 1.3.2 build 4205 64bit mac os.

Solved it by saving the file locally - I was running it on an external disk formatted as Fat32 (not a very sensible setup I know).

To follow up - trying to copy the files back across clarifies what the problem is - "file too large for the volume's format".
