tie points and optimization
« on: October 18, 2012, 04:37:32 AM »
Can you optimize alignment without actual GCP with known coordinates but only using tie points based on image coordinates?

If so, what would be the workflow... first alignment/geometry, add/manually align markers in different photos, optimize, reset and realign (?) and build new geometry (?)

Thanks,

Javier

Hello Javier,

If there are no coordinates for markers they will not be used for camera alignment optimization. However, markers could be used for difficult datasets as 100% valid matches if "Align selected" feature is used.

Thanks Alexey. So after inserting markers, should I reset the alignment for ALL photos, use align selected, and re-build geometry?

Hello Javier,

That depends on your needs. It is possible to reset alignment for all cameras or only for incorrectly aligned.

Further to my last post, I've noticed that putting markers (with no known coordinates) wont necessary "force" alignment on non aligned ones. I've tried putting up to 5 markers on a NA photo (matching them across two aligned photos) with no success. In such case, my only option is to discard the photo or adding more tie points would eventually force an alignement??
