Sudio problems
« on: September 05, 2017, 03:42:46 PM »
Hi

I've done some outdoor nature photogrammetry before and are quite used it it. Walking around an object Photoscan has always done a great job of aligning the pics.

I wanted to shoot in a more controlled environment so I made a very amateur studio just to get even lighting. I'm now spinning the object on a lazy Susan instead of moving the camera. I use a green screen to mask the objects. I shoot in 3 rows and for each row I have a masking background without the object.
I use this tutorial as base of my method:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_F-b2hxP_o

Problem is that photoscan can't align the point cloud. The result is terrible. I don't know why. I uploaded some pics of my rig and screenshots from photoscan. Can some one tell me why this isn't working for me? Seems to be working for other people using the same method.

thx!
/ Erik

Hello Erik,

What parameters you are using for the alignment? Maybe you can save the project in PSZ format and share it with us?

I put Accuracy on higest. For pair preselection I have tried all three different alternatives.
Under the advanced tab I leave everything at default with "constrain features by mask" unchecked.

Where can I upload the PSZ file? its 5,3 mb and too large for uploading to this forum.

I do it outside on a overcast day. The "studio is just white paper surrounding the object for even lighting. Like in the pictures I attached.

Hello Erik,

Constrain features by mask option should be checked on, otherwise the masked areas would be also taken into consideration during the feature point detection.

If the alignment fails even when the mask option is turned on, please send the new PSZ project with the alignment results to support@agisoft.com.

Quality is also dependent on the amount of light, the ISO speed should be as low as possible to eliminate noise. So its possible you might have to add additional lighting beyond the typical indoor overhead lights.

Alexey Pasumansky Thank you! That worked =)

chrisd Since I'm using a tripod I have ISO to 200. I think the light is distributed well across the whole object. I will definitely buy some flashes or strobes when I can afford it.
